The Bird at Birtle was established in 2016 when the refurbishment of The Bird Int’Hand project was undertaken by local restaurateurs, the Nutter family. After the successful growth of the family’s first restaurant – the multi award-winning, Nutters Restaurant – they were keen to use their knowledge and experience to develop a gastro pub that the whole family could enjoy.
Rodney and Jean Nutter purchased the Bird, Christmas 2014 and handed Andrew – son and chef – a rather large Christmas gift, the keys. Giving Andrew the opportunity to create his own, unique stamp on relaxed pub-dining. And that’s where the journey started.
The kitchen team is headed up by Andrew’s Head Chef, Carl Tait, after working together for more than 12 years, he’s joined by Sous Chef Kirsty Jones to deliver traditional Lancashire food cooked with flair and imagination.
Front of house
The front of house is headed up by General Manager, Hannah, whose been a long established employee at Nutters Restaurant. Rodney Nutter has used his expertise as a sommeilier and has hand-picked the wine list, offering some of Nutter’s favourites along with some new labels to match the menu perfectly.
